Hercules And Love Affair play Liverpool Sound City

Hercules and Love Affair brought the third day of Liverpool Sound City to a close last night (May 29) by transforming the city's Barfly into a massive disco.

Although main vocalist Antony Hegarty was not present, back-up singers Nomi and Kim Ann filled in with no problems, as the crowd danced away to tracks including 'Athene', 'Blind', forthcoming single 'You Belong' and closer 'Hercules Theme'.

Producer Andrew Butler, playing keyboard, stayed at the back of the stage during the set, letting his singers and trumpet players take the limelight.

The night was not without problems however, Late Of The Pier and Esser pulled out at the last minute, consequently changing stage times and confusing gig-goers.

This meant the Barfly was empty up until ten minutes before Florence And The Machine's supporting set, although her energetic performance quickly caused the venue to fill up.

Tearing through 'Girl With One Eye', single 'Kiss With A Fist' and covers including the Cold War Kids's 'Hospital Beds' and Mystery Jets's 'Flakes', she won over the audience with a spirited performance.

Meanwhile downstairs at the venue The Fields, Telepath and Four Tet filled in for what would have been a Late Of The Pier headline set.

Liverpool Sound City concludes tonight (May 30) with acts including Hot Club De Paris, Robots In Disguise and a closing set from The Wombats at Liverpool's St George's Hall.

EastEnders bosses to axe Mickey and Keith

'EastEnders' is to axe son and stepfather duo Mickey and Keith Miller because bosses at the soap feel the characters have "run out of steam".
The characters - who have been played by actors Joe Swash and David Spinx since 2003 and 2004 respectively - were told by executive producer Diederick Santer on Friday that their contracts would not be renewed.
A friend of 26-year-old Swash told The Sun: "He and David were told their characters had run out of steam by 'EastEnders' boss Diederick Santer. Joe was stunned at first. He's loved playing Mickey and felt the fans still enjoyed watching his antics."
The friend added: "But he soon realised if the stories weren't there, he didn't want to be just going through the motions. He's now thinking over his next move carefully. He doesn't want to become just another former soap star."

Besides being a crucial DJ and the output magician partially responsible for for the development of Chicago acid-house, DJ Pierre later influenced the sound of New York's more disco-fied house with his tenure as an in-house producer for Strictly Rhythm Records. Born in the Chicago suburbs, Nathaniel Pierre Jones was influenced by the Hot Mix Five, the pioneering DJ team which lit up Chicago's radio airwaves during the early '80s with dance megamixes. Jones later began DJing himself, though he favored the sound of Italian disco to the blending of person and American disco which Chicago DJs like Ron Hardy were playacting out. When his friend Spanky brought him to the Music Box to listen Ron Hardy in person though, Pierre was convinced -- he began spinning records more kindred to the burgeoning house level-headed as well. DJ Pierre began recording on the side with Spanky and another protagonist named Herb J, working on tracks with an honest-to-goodness barrel political machine and synthesizers.

One of the synthesizers in their studio was the Roland TB-303, a bass-line generator introduced only in the past few days only already a relic littering junk stores at inexpensive prices. After a period of experimentation, the ternion off upon an challenging level-headed made when the box was pitched practically higher than its normal operational frequencies; the squelchy psychedelic sounds enlivened their recordings and more than than convinced Ron Hardy to begin playing one running on his reel-to-reel frame-up at the Music Box. Known at the clubhouse as "Bokkos Hardy's Acid Tracks" and cursorily re-recorded for a 1986 passing by the ternion billed as Phuture, "Acid Trax" became one of the biggest house records of the clock time, the starting point for a whole new style afterwards termed acid house as a testimonial. Reportedly, thousands of soundalike records afloat the local market in the adjacent few long time, and the originators apace became disregarded amidst the wash of imitators. DJ Pierre unbroken busy, working on the act Pierre's Phantasy Club with Felix Da Housecat and producing another genuine house classic with "String Free" by Phortune, merely then left Phuture in 1990 with a resettlement to New York.

His beginning undivided erstwhile in Gotham was Photon Inc.'s "Generate Power," a dancefloor play-actor released on the comparatively mainstream dance label Strictly Rhythm. "Generate Power" was the formal debut for Pierre's new production method the Wild Pitch, created with a apace backspun sample which generated a crisp lightning-strike of levelheaded similar to the acerb quell. Besides featuring on a host of DJ Pierre remixes and productions, it became monetary standard fare for scores of producers during the next few eld, just now as the legal of the TB-303 had before. Pierre continued to remix and bring forth for Strictly Rhythm and Twisted/MCA, finding additional cabaret hits with "Live & Die" by Audio Clash, some other Photon Inc.. track named "Love," "Follow Me" by Aly-Us and "Sound Blaster" by Joint Venture. He as well hosted a skid of mix compilations throughout the nineties.

Harrison Ford - Ford Shows-off Whip-cracking Indy Skills

Actor HARRISON FORD proved there were no camera tricks involved in enhancing his whip-cracking skills in the new INDIANA JONES movie - by giving a demonstration on live TV.

The 65-year-old reprises his role as the swashbuckling archaeologist in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, 19 years after the last big screen adventure.

And Ford showed he shares his character's talents with a whip on breakfast show Good Morning America on Thursday (22May08).

With one crack of the whip, Ford catapulted a set of empty milk cartons with a single crack of his Indy whip - the same one he used in the movie.

But Ford was humbled by his seamless stunt, revealing he needed a refresher course, almost two decades after he last picked up the weapon: "I was a bit out of practice, and fortunately we had (fight director) Anthony (Delongis)."
